The Best Names Ever

I’ve been thinking recently about the best names and so I decided to share them with all of you. I hope this doesn’t backfire and have all you insanely jealous people steal my names because you Cant have them! With that, I will give you my list:
1. Jack. I have always liked the name Jack ever since I saw “The Nightmare Before Christmas” It is such an awesome name and it just touches me somehow. I was going to be the first person I knew to have a son named jack, until those Nunninks swooped down and stole it from me! I’ll have my revenge! No, actually I love Jack. Sure he doesn’t know me, or like me, and doesn’t wave when I smile and wave at him, but he is a awesome kid (or so I hear). Jack has also been the number 1 most popular name in England for the last 7 years! And number 2 in Scotland for the last 8 years. Therefore, Jack is definitely up there on the list of awesome names.
2. Sam. This one is a given. Who could not love the name Sam? Have you ever met a Sam you did not like? Well I haven’t. Sam is very popular in Australia. Short for either Samson or Samuel. It could also be short for Samantha. Sam is always the good guy and will always be there for you when you need him. Gotta love it.
3. Marcus. I don’t know why I like this name, but it just has something about it that I like. Marcus sounds like a superhero or something. I only know of two great Marcus’s: Marcus Tullius Cicero (known simply as Cicero), a statesman and orator, and Marcus Aurelius, a notable emperor of the 2nd century. This was also the name of a pope of the 4th century. It’s a famous name! Plus Marcus is the original form of the name Mark. Betcha didn’t know that! Well maybe you did.
4. Aaron. I love this name a lot. Partly because the first Aaron I knew was Aaron Sidebottom, and I love Aaron Sidebottom. He was like my first mentor and so I gladly accept this name into my favorite archives. Aaron was the 12th most popular name in Ireland in 2002, and in 2004 it is the 10th most popular. In the U.S. it’s the 53rd most popular. Aaron was, of course, the older brother of Moses and the first high priest of the Israelites.
5. Audrey. This is a pretty name. It means noble, strength. Also popularized by Oscar-winning actress Audrey Hepburn, who starred in 'Breakfast At Tiffany's' and 'My Fair Lady'. It’s a very beautiful name and for some reason, between 1900 and 1939 Audrey was a male name as well. Sure it ranked 917th out of 1000, but it still counts! That means there were 83 worse names for males back then. It is also the name of a character in Shakespeare's comedy 'As You Like It'.
6. Morgan. Morgan is a great name for a male or a female. It is welsh and means “Circle of the Sea”. Not entirely sure what that means, but I like it a lot. It can be a first name, last name, male or female. It’s the perfect name! It was a male name before it was a female name though, and the name has always been in the top 50th most popular names ever since 1991. Morgan Freeman is a famous icon bearing this name. I love the way it sounds and I think I am going to keep it.
Well there you go. This is my list of favorite names. Add your own if you want because I would love to hear your thoughts. Now here is some information on some of your names:

Ian: Scottish form of John. Also cannot be shortened into some annoying nickname.

Rosalyn: Medieval form of ROSALIND

Michelle: French feminine form of MICHAEL

Mariah: Variant of MARIA. Also very popular in 1998.

Mimi: Italian pet form of MARIA. Also not very popular in the United staes.

Zach: Shortened from the Hebrew name Zekaryah which meant "YAHWEH remembers".
Nattalie: From the Late Latin name Natalia, which meant "Christmas Day" from Latin natale domini.

Michelle: French feminine form of Michael. Also translated “One who rules over the blogs with an iron fist of snap judgments.” I think I read that somewhere.

Levi: Means "attached" in Hebrew. In the Old Testament Levi was the third son of Jacob and Leah, and the ancestor of one of the twelve tribes of the Israelites (the tribe that eventually became the priests of the Israelites). In the New Testament this is another name for the apostle Matthew. Quite the popular one!

Melanie: Derived from Greek μελαινα (melaina) meaning "black, dark". This was the name of a Roman saint who gave all her wealth to charity in the 5th century. Also very popular in France. Sorry Mel.

Sadie: Pet form of Sarah, which means "lady" or "princess" in Hebrew.

Rachel: Means "ewe" in Hebrew. She was the favorite wife of Jacob and the mother of Joseph and Benjamin in the Old Testament. Also insanely popular in Ireland and Scotland.
That’s all!
~Ian

Welcome back Ian! We "lukers" have missed you.
Since Melanie means "woman in dark cloth" (according to name books that I've read) I've always thought it fitting that I have it as my name. If you were to take a look in my closet you'd know why, as it is full of black. BTW,did you know that "Stan" means "dweller by the stone wall?"
No, I didn't think you did.
Hey-I'll be sure to put the word out that you're back, and that myspace hasn't totally and completely taken you away from us in blogland.

Did you know that Beau means lovley, or beau-ti-ful?
I told Zach you had updated. He didn't touch the internet today though; had his head buried in school. He tells me that there's a chance you're going to Iraq? Is this true? The kids and I attended a very cool and touching memorial/ceremony this morning in honor of Veterans day. It was held at Memorial park (fittingly I suppose.)I called Jim and told him about it, figuring he'd want to go- knowing how patriotic he is and all. He came with family in tow, minus your sweetheart. Imagine, some day you'll be one of those guys standing up in front, being honored the way those men were today. Actually you were,(honored) even though you weren't present, and couldn't hear the applause....you were.

I would just like to make a few non-name related comments.
Well yea there is a chance that I will go to Iraq, but I dont want to make anything of it until i Actually HAVE to go. There is no point in thinking about it and worrying about it if it might not happen.
Well I appriciate you attending something so patriotic in honor of all the people who have fought hard for this country. What did I do for Veterans day? Oh yea, I worked from 6:30am-7:00pm.It just makes me so proud. *Small sniffle* anyways, I hope to hear the rest of your comments!

Ian, Yes, I'm sorry for making my last comment more about V. Day, and mentioning the possibility of you leaving (I hope it wasn't a secret) rather than more stuff on names. It didn't even occur to me that that may not have been appropriate to talk about on your blog, until late last night some time, and then it was too late....well, anyway, hope you're not bugged at me too much.
Incidently, the name Walker means "thickner of cloth", Zachary means "Jehovah hath remembered," and Sydney means....um....I'll have to look that one up. Did you know that our Zach didn't even have a name for like, 3 days after he was born? I was convinced he was a girl, and had planned on naming him "Haley." So glad that didn't happen! Poor little fella, we finally came up with Zachary Arnold (after his papa.) It's quite fitting I think.
When were pregnant with Beau i had some other names in mind like, "Daisy", and -don't laugh- "Chrysanthumum". (What can I say? I like names of flowers.) The problem with that one was the scary, odd, and freakish way Uncle Tim laughed each and every time I said it. So it got voted down.

Out of the names on this list the ones I agree with(no offense anyone) are Sam, Jack, and Audrey, which was actually my suggestion. Morgan and Marcus are just not my cup-o-tea. I've known people with both those names. I know a boy and a girl Morgan and I still detest the name. I don't associate the name to them at all and I don't like them any less, I just don't like the names. That's my 2 cents.

Whoa, I feel like a supah-stah getting personally pointed out by my little buddy Ian! Thanks for the props, Man! (notice how I dawg-talk with the yoot.)
I agree with Mariah about the names, Jack, Sam and Audrey. Sorry, I don't hate the names you mentioned, just now refuse to marry you in case we have kids, I don't want to fight. (Ew... the thought of it, or should I say "Rachel", the thought of it...)
Man, Melanie, make me cry talking about the V-Day thing, and bum me out with the news that Ian may go to Iraq. I'm serious, if that happens, our whole church will go strap ourselves to the plane.
Great post, Ian. Sadly, I couldn't figure out how to take this one over and steer it in a direction you just don't want to go.
I'll end with saying my fav names that I never got to have kids to label:
I love Holiday for a girl, and Olivia
For a boy, I think Wilder and Cap are super cute, from the Little House books. (Cap is actually a Nunnink family name. Tim's great-great grandfather served in the Civil War as a Captain, and the title stuck till his death.)
And I've always wanted to name a kid Ace. How can a boy lose when he's named Ace?
OK, don't anyone steal my names, cus you never know, I just may have a kid-revival and start having babies again.

hey Ian, I think we nned to bond over Nunninks stealing names. I'll have you know Sam has been my name for ages. And a couple years ago levi and suzanne informed me that they want to name their next son Sam. Auggh The theives! Of course I sort of feel worse for you, that would make 2 names they stole from you. Im just praying they have girls untill I get my sam!

Also, few people are aware that Sydney has wanted to name her first daughter "Daisy," since I was pregnant with Beau, and now Suzanne wants that name, too. She also wanted a Disney song sung at her wedding, that Claire later thought of, and now wants too.
Sadly, I don't think she stands much of a chance since Suzanne will get that daughter, and Claire that man, before Sydney ever will, to be sure. No worries though. We'll always love those thieving Nunninks a big, fat, ton.

I'd just like to further point out that Sadie means princess--I'd like to be treated as such. Thank you.
and thank you, Ian, for reminding everyone the value in a name.

Mother! You didn't mention that my name was going to be Olivia. I like my name and all but sometimes it's hard to say I'll be like "My name is Malin" It's just really hard for me to say sometimes.
